29 11 2009

Benefit Gig for Chi Cheng

17 11 2009

Today I read that Deftones, one of my fav bands from the new era of alternative metal, is gonna perform 2 gigs in benefit of their bassist Chi Cheng, who was involved in a serious car accident on November 2nd 2008 as you may already know, he remains in a semi concious state produced by the long time he was in a coma.

This week, they are performing at Avalon Hollywood as a fundraiser for the Chi Ling Cheng’s Special Needs Trust, which was created to pay for the big medical costs of the recovery of  Chi. If you wanna help Chi, you may by going to www.deftones.com.

On my behalf, the best of the luck for Chi and his family, hope you get well soon cause we can’t wait to see you back with Deftones and keep the awesome tunes coming! It sometimes seems that the worst things happen only to the good people, the prepared, and the worthy… it’s really sad.

Special! The songs that got me really into Deftones, inf category:

Strenght man!

Hey everybody! Welcome to another edition of Daily Tunage. Today we have some electro for you guys on the inf. category, thanks to a french DJ called Danger. This is the kind of electronic/house music we need these days. I give you 19h11, if you wanna learn more about the name of the song, it’s a custom that this guy made by naming his mixes and tunes as the hours in which he wrote ‘em. Enjoy!

14 11 2009

red-hot-chili-peppers

Hey everyone! Haven’t posted anything in a while… sorry! Well, the good news now, the funk rockers, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are getting out of their hiatus since 2008 to perform on the charity concert MusiCares on January 29 2010.  Last month, the LA rockers went in the studio to record their follow up to their 2006 double album Stadium Arcadium (Charlie FTW!) which is gonna be released next year. That means TOUR!! Hope those guys are able to come to Lima someday, since Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand and Depeche Mode played here and some are yet to play here soon, maybe they can get on the huge wave of concerts that is making Lima the music capital of south america step by step.

To remember the good days! (The Good Days post coming up!) here is the Daily Tunage vid of the day. On the Inf. category…

Daily Tunage: Calvin Harris – Vegas

Good techno music for the masses, keep them coming Calvin!

The Goodbye Fever Strikes MTV???

21 09 2009

I’ve been tuning MTV lately to watch how the pop music kingdom is going straight downhill, but one thing surprised me the most. I’ve talked about sampling before and how i’m against it if the song that you make around it turns out to be worse than the original one, but what’s the deal with all these “artists” that sampled Steam’s Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye??

I’ve heard 3 songs with the same sample in less than 30 minutes WTF???

- Kristinia DeBarge – Goodbye

- Wale (feat. Lady Gaga) -  Chilin’

- Jay Z – D.O.A. (Death of Autotune)

Guess they were fighting to get the copyrights to the sample and a case of bad timing occurred…

Well the truth is that these songs aren’t better than the one they took the sample from. Goodbye is a bubblegum pop song as others in the past, not interesting at all. It’s got all the key elements of a “hit”. Chillin’  has an interesting arrangement of music  BUT! the Lady Gaga’s part doesn’t help to take the song to a whole new level, also, the parts where Wale repeats his name over and over again in fear of being confused by Whale really makes it dumb.

On the other hand, is Jay Z with D.O.A. It’s an  interesting/weird song, but it should have been a lot better since he is protesting against the use of autotune in the latest hip hop music. The sample really loses it’s power when it was included in this song. You know? I used to like Jay Z’s music, I loved Roc Boys (And The Winner Is…), where he used a sample of Make the Road by Walking  by The Menahan Street Band. That’s an example where the song made around a sample really brings it up.  But well… nothing lasts forever.

Rule N°1: Thou shalt not sample another man’s/woman’s song…

…unless your song is a lot better than the man’s/woman’s hahaha

Now seriously…

Don’t sample a song only to get fame by association, if you are a musician, be yourself, and if you are gonna use a sample don’t make it THAT obvious for them to identify it and get your whole song defined by it.

The music buyer right now is really lowering his standards if he didn’t know that they are trying to sell him the same song 3 times in a row. Are they trying to make a fool out of ourselves? C’mon!

Here are the three songs, you decide:

And here is the song where the sample came from:

Daily Tunage (Honorary): Megadeth – Head Crusher

14 09 2009

Finally the video for Megadeth’s new single, Head Crusher is out. It’s pretty cool, but I guess i wanted a wilder scenario. We are talking about Dave Mustaine man… you got to get wilder than that LOL. Enjoy!

Happy Ozzy Osbourne DAY!!!

10 09 2009

ozzy-osbourne

Today, September 10th, is the Ozzy Osbourne day in West Hollywood! Finally people are giving some recognition to one of the most influential men in Heavy Metal history. West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tempore John Heilman had the initiative to make this day Ozz’s day: “Ozzy has had a sizeable musical impact”, he saidWe want to salute all of his contributions to the music industry and to the Sunset Strip”. Later on, he will launch the Sunset Strip Music Festival with a tribute to THE MAN, and on September 12th the one and only will perform in front of thy fans.

So, as I say to you, go out there, buy an Ozzy record, crank the volume and have a great Ozz Day!!!

Just to get you in the mood:

This is also my Daily Tunage song: I Don’t Want to Stop by Ozzy Osbourne. (Inf. Category) This is the version of the video I like the most. The grafics remind you of the 70’s videos with Sabbath (Paranoid, War Pigs, Iron Man). ENJOY!!

Daily TUNAGE: Anthrax – Got The Time

4 09 2009

Today in the inf. category, we have Anthrax with Got The Time. This actually is a cover from a song Joe Jackson wrote, but eitherway this version is a lot cooler in my opinion.

This is why it’s called thrash, fast guitars, punk based drumming, and moshing ’til your f#$king head comes off. ENJOY!

Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax Will TOOR TOGETHER!????

3 09 2009

metallica-logomegadeth_logoslayer_logoanthrax

Wow some news! Seems that the Four HORSEMEN of Thrash Metal WILL start a tour according to Kerry King from Slayer. In an interview he said for the Metal Hammer Magazine in the UK he said:

“I think it would be cool but I knew we had this planned before all of this Megadeth stuff started happening,” said King. “They’re going to Australia with us, they’re going to Canada again with us. I think it would be cool for the European fans to bring that over here because, shit, we didn’t even consider playing with those guys since 1990.”

I’ve heard people referencing Lars,” said King. “I don’t know Lars that well and I haven’t heard it from Lars, but apparently he’s talking to somebody about it. Maybe us, Metallica, Megadeth (and), I think he even threw in Anthrax and I said in this day and age, I know we had that time together, but how do you leave out Machine Head? There’s better options than ANTHRAX and that’s nothing against Anthrax, but they’ve just been in pieces for quite some time and that doesn’t make as much sense to me.

Will this be true?? All the feuds between Metallica, Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) and Kerry King (Slayer) have finally being resolved?? It seems so.

In my opinion, I think this had to happen sooner. They knew they always where the Big Four of Thrash Metal and maybe they should have put this thing together for the fans in 2000 or 2002, when the big boom of the Nü Metal exploded. It would have been an awesome way to really educate the new young fans of heavy metal and for that, the ultimate way to really influence a new generation of BELIEVERS!

My only hope is that these guys come here, it would be a dream come true. Although, the ranks in the Metal Army from my country are not that bast and it would be a really big risk for the organizers of the event. On the other hand, it would make Lima the capital of Metal in south america.
